[opensuse-buildservice] Improving the SLED : SDK : Extra repository?
Hello hackers! I am working with EDU customers who are standardizing on SLED - and interested to use some open source applications, on top of SLED. I have started a Education:desktop project - and am working with them to build a repository for SLED of applications that they need. Think of this as an EDU Desktop Apps Addon CD projects. The biggest challenge for us - is that some of the packages we are trying to compile need additional libraries that are not available in SLED, or SLE-SDK. Fortunatly some of you have created SLE:SDK:Extras, but in my case - I need even more libraries than are available in there. (ie: python-sqlite2http://build.opensuse.org/package/show?package=python-sqlite2&project=Education%3Adesktop ). Is anyone else hitting that limitation too? Is it better to get the SLE:SDK:Extras repository extended, or to create, yet another repository (ie: SDK:Extras:more)? Suggestions or solutions are welcome. - Jay Migliaccio

IMHO we should extend SLE:SDK:Extras accordingly. Which libs do you need? Best regards, Stefan Public Key available ------------------------------------------------------ Stefan Dirsch (Res. & Dev.) Here is the current list: Noteedit requires: tse3-devel, which appears to be available in OpenSUSE 10.1 Gcompris requires: gdk-pixbuf-devel, python-sqlite2, gnuchess NOTE: everything except python-sqlite2 appear in OpenSUSE python-sqlite2 requires: python-devel That is the current list. You can see more details by poking around in the build environment: http://build.opensuse.org/project/show?project=Education%3Adesktop I updated the project documentation here: http://en.opensuse.org/Education:/desktop Sincerely, - Jay I have created a bit more documentation

I'll add tse3 to SUSE:SLE-10:SDK:Extra.
Gcompris requires: gdk-pixbuf-devel,
gdk-pixbuf is already part of SLES10.
python-sqlite2
even not yet in Factory. AFAIK not in buildservice, too. Your job. :-)
gnuchess
I wouldn't call this a library. I suggest to add gnuchess to the Education:desktop project instead. I can take care of this.
NOTE: everything except python-sqlite2 appear in OpenSUSE
python-sqlite2 requires: python-devel
python-devel is part of SLES10.
I updated the project documentation here: http://en.opensuse.org/Education:/desktop
Good to know. :-) Best regards, Stefan Public Key available ------------------------------------------------------ Stefan Dirsch (Res. & Dev.) done (still scheduled/building).

Hmm ... looks like I was wrong. I've added it to SUSE:SLE-10:SDK:Extra, too. (still scheduled/building)

I think you can replace %{python-devel} with python-devel in python-sqlite2.spec to fix the expansion error. While you are at it: Can you add xen too?
Xen is on SLES only, not SLED, and thus not in SLE-10, so you can't
build stuff for SLES which depends on xen-devel.rpm ...
thanks,
Gerd

Yes. Done. You are automatically added as maintainer. If you need it in your home as well, the new "aggregate" feature might be for you. Currently I need it for my tests with gcomris (so both packages can be removed later). But where can I find more information about the new "aggregate" feature?
