[opensuse-buildservice] What can cause this on a mirror site?
Hi, I use Tenet's opensuse mirror for updates and occasionally the file: '/suse/setup/descr/appdata-icons.tar.gz' not found on medium I get this with Leap:42.3:Update but users have the same problem with the same mirror on Tumbleweed. I've actually seen this with the main: http://download.opensuse.org/update/leap/42.3/oss/ and the Tenet mirror worked. This state only existed for less than an hour but the Tenet mirror usually has the bad state for a few days. Tenet mirror = : http://opensuse.mirror.ac.za/ I know this should be reported to Tenet but it would help if I could point out what could be the cause, especially because this is a transient error. Yes, it should be reported there. But you should tell them also what exact HTTP error you see. You can find this in /var/log/zypp* files usually -- Adrian Schroeter email: adrian@suse.de SUSE Linux GmbH, GF: Felix Imendörffer, Jane Smithard, Graham Norton, HRB 21284 (AG Nürnberg) Maxfeldstraße 5 90409 Nürnberg Germany -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-buildservice+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-buildservice+owner@opensuse.org

So for some reason one particular file is intermittently missing the sync and only coming back on the next sync. What could cause this and if you were a Tenet admin, how would you rectify this? You have entered this mirror URL, directly? So the repomd.xml on that mirror seems to refer this file, but it is not there. There is a small chance that mirroring happend on bad timing, when this repo just got updated. But not so likely, so I guess it is some other problem (disk full, lost data, ...) However, a mirror admin could avoid this disk by doing the classing two step syncing... first update most content additionally and afterwards syncing again using --delete.. -- Adrian Schroeter email: adrian@suse.de SUSE Linux GmbH, GF: Felix Imendörffer, Jane Smithard, Graham Norton, HRB 21284 (AG Nürnberg) Maxfeldstraße 5 90409 Nürnberg Germany -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-buildservice+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-buildservice+owner@opensuse.org

Thanks, somehow this happens on average maybe once a month on frequently changed repos, they also mirror home: repos but I stopped using it for this reason. I'll assume that it's bad timing and hold thumbs they can fix it. Both hexstring-app-icons.tar.gz and repomd.xml are small files, 230k and 3k respectively, they should be sync'ed virtually at the same time, within the same second. -- Per Jessen, Zürich (2.2°C) http://www.hostsuisse.com/ - virtual servers, made in Switzerland. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-buildservice+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-buildservice+owner@opensuse.org

That is what it looks like. FYI, on our own mirror (http://mirror.hostsuisse.com), appdata-icons.tar.gz is never in update/, only in distribution/ and tumbleweed/.
What could cause this and if you were a Tenet admin, how would you rectify this?
Good question. I've just checked our mirror access logs for the last 30 days - for Tumbleweed, I see some 700 404s on yyyymmddhhmm-appdata-icons.tar.gz, otherwise nothing. Looking for 'app-icons.tar.gz' instead, I see 57 404s on /update/leap/42.[23]/repodata/longhexstring-app-icons.tar.gz Only one with user-agent "ZYpp", the rest from browser "Mozilla/4.0 (compatible;)". This I find a pretty odd - the 404s could perhaps be explained by the mirror only being partially in sync, but I would expect to see "ZYpp" hitting the 404s too. -- Per Jessen, Zürich (1.6°C) http://www.dns24.ch/ - free dynamic DNS, made in Switzerland. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-buildservice+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-buildservice+owner@opensuse.org

Other users reported the missing file on Tumbleweed not 42.3 update so maybe the problem happens on your servers too but the syncing frequency masks it? I did have a missing repodata/ file, can't remember which one it was from the main repo maybe missing on another mirror that mirrorbrain switched me to but on that occasion the Tenet mirror worked.
