[opensuse-buildservice] Project/Package Messages
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hello all! My proposal is to add messages similar to Status messages shown on Build Service Status page to every project/package page. Any BuildService user can add message, but only project/package maintainers can set special "Private" flag. When this flag is set, message is only shown to other maintainers of project/package (it is not publicly visible to everyone). Messages from maintainers can also be highlighted with color and/or icon. This feature would help to coordinate maintainers of larger projects and also allow simple and quick feedback from users (when OBS will be open for everyone). I know that this functionality can be achieved by using emails and I'm aware of some drawbacks that this feature might bring (harder maintenance of OBS, larger database overhead and size), but I still think simple internal messaging system is worth considering. IMO the buildservice's job is to build packages ;) For bug tracking, discussion forums, etc. it would be IMO a better idea to link to other systems: openSUSE bugzilla, upstream bugtrackers, upstream discussion forums, maybe some forum running parallel to the buildsrvice, etc. just my two cents, Michal --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-buildservice+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-buildservice+help@opensuse.org

I do not want to substitute any of these, I just wanted simple way to tell other maintainers (and/or users) that e.g. package xyz is disabled on 10.0 because there is no library abc, or package xyz is disabled because I'm working on spec file and it will be ready on Friday (also meaning: maintainers, please do not change anything in this package as it is WIP). - -- Best Regards / S pozdravom, Pavol RUSNAK SUSE LINUX, s.r.o Package Maintainer Lihovarska 1060/12 PGP 0xA6917144 19000 Praha 9, CR prusnak[at]suse.cz http://www.suse.cz -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.6 (GNU/Linux) Comment: Using GnuPG with SUSE - http://enigmail.mozdev.org iD8DBQFGCUqfASE5C6aRcUQRAigQAKCzi3uAvDXc4+ThYur7/VKdX16BegCfWMCz 2wduzHA3REzqRfen3LxeS3I= =iVk8 -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-buildservice+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-buildservice+help@opensuse.org
Hi Pavol, Pavol Rusnak:
My proposal is to add messages similar to Status messages shown on Build Service Status page to every project/package page. Any BuildService user can add message...
I think this is a good idea. Maybe there also could be a flag to additionally send the message via email to the involved users of the package/project. I try to find some time beside working on my diploma thesis to implement something like this, but I can't make any promises how long this could take. -- David Mayr, http://davey.de openSUSE LINUX, http://opensuse.de --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-buildservice+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-buildservice+help@opensuse.org
