http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=520695 Summary: only selfcompiled version of nvidia driver works Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.1 Version: Final Platform: x86 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.1 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: X.Org AssignedTo: bnc-team-xorg-bugs@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: matthiasbehrens@web.de QAContact: xorg-maintainer-bugs@forge.provo.novell.com Found By: --- Created an attachment (id=304147) --> (http://bugzilla.novell.com/attachment.cgi?id=304147) result of glxinfo after compiling the nvidia driver myself User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; de; rv:1.9.1) Gecko/20090624 Firefox/3.5 the laptop has a 9200m chip. when i use the nvidia02 package from the nvidia repository and try running sax2 -r -m 0=nvidia no xserver can be started however when i download the same driver version from nvidia hp and compile it and let the script configure my xorg.conf it works. main problems are: when a kernel update comes out x wont start -> driver has to be recompiled. it is a user laptop so it is unacceptable. other problems are dual head is not configurable with sax2 because sax2 allways displays vesa device and not nvidia. rpm package from yast2 does not work. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. install nvidia rpm package using yast2 2. run sax2 -r -m 0=nvidia Actual Results: xserver does not start - no screen found Expected Results: sax2 should run and cofigure my system the laptop is supposed to use a 9200m chip however it is identified as a 8200 chip -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

ups sorry - here the real version
Vendor: pci 0x10de "nVidia Corporation" Device: pci 0x086f "GeForce 9200M G" As assumed before. Another secret/undocumented device. Search for it in NVIDIA driver's README.txt. You won't find it. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
