[Bug 210964] New: ipw-firmware update kills network
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=210964 Summary: ipw-firmware update kills network Product: openSUSE 10.2 Version: Alpha 5 Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Network AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: dmueller@novell.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Hi, the post of ipw-firmware is a bit ugly as it deloads the module, but can't load the module again because of a kernel update inbetween (during a whole system upgrade), so the network based update hangs. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

OTOH, when ipw-firmware gets installed (not upgraded), the ipw driver may be loaded already but is unfunctional at this point, so reloading the module is necessary. Maybe we should skip reloading on package upgrade. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

I've changed the post-install script to only reload the module if it is loaded but has no interface, this should now only match the case when the module was loaded with no firmware available. Package submitted to STABLE. Gary, SLED10 is also affected. Should I fix it for SP1? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
