[Bug 804458] New: After boot, nothing polkit-related works until logging out and logging in
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=804458 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=804458#c0 Summary: After boot, nothing polkit-related works until logging out and logging in Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.3 Version: RC 1 Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: SUSE Other Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Basesystem AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: mike.catanzaro@gmail.com QAContact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64) AppleWebKit/537.6+ (KHTML, like Gecko) Chromium/23.0.1271.95 Chrome/23.0.1271.95 Safari/537.6+ SUSE/12.3 (3.6.1) Epiphany/3.6.1 After boot, nothing polkit-related works until logging out and logging in. I installed with a 12.3 RC1 GNOME live CD and I have only one user account. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Boot 12.3 and log in to the user account. 2. Note that GNOME Bluetooth didn't start. 3. Note that the alternative-status-menu extension didn't load. 4. Note that all "unlock" buttons in GNOME System Settings are insensitive. 5. Note that attempting to connect to a hidden wireless network in GNOME NetworkManager fails with no warning message. 6. Note that the login keyring was not unlocked. 7. Attempt to restart the computer and note that the user is prompted twice for authentication. 8. After failing to provide authentication to restart, I am brought back to gdm. 9. Log in again; everything works. The only suspicious thing I can find in my journal is this: pam-backend[2341]: The gnome keyring socket is not owned with the same credentia pam-backend[2340]: gkr-pam: couldn't unlock the login keyring. pam-backend[2340]: pam_unix(gnomesu-pam:session): session opened for user root b 8]: gkr-pam: couldn't get the password from user: Authentication failure 8]: pam_unix(sudo:auth): conversation failed 8]: pam_unix(sudo:auth): auth could not identify password for [root] 2]: The gnome keyring socket is not owned with the same credentials as the user 1]: gkr-pam: couldn't unlock the login keyring. In particular, journalctl _SYSTEMD_UNIT=polkit.service shows nothing suspicious: 610]: Started polkitd version 0.110 610]: Loading rules from directory /etc/polkit-1/rules.d 610]: Loading rules from directory /usr/share/polkit-1/rules.d 610]: Finished loading, compiling and executing 2 rules 610]: Acquired the name org.freedesktop.PolicyKit1 on the system bus 610]: Registered Authentication Agent for unix-session:1 (system bus name :1.27 610]: Unregistered Authentication Agent for unix-session:1 (system bus name :1.2 610]: Registered Authentication Agent for unix-session:2 (system bus name :1.45 610]: Operator of unix-session:2 FAILED to authenticate to gain authorization fo 610]: Operator of unix-session:2 FAILED to authenticate to gain authorization fo 610]: Unregistered Authentication Agent for unix-session:2 (system bus name :1.4 610]: Registered Authentication Agent for unix-session:4 (system bus name :1.82 610]: Unregistered Authentication Agent for unix-session:4 (system bus name :1.8 610]: Registered Authentication Agent for unix-session:5 (system bus name :1.100 -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

The difference is that the newer osprober passes "quiet splash" to the kernel to get a pretty Plymouth boot,
OK that was kind of from memory, the difference is "splash=silent quiet showopts". If you remove these from the kernel command line with yast2-bootloader then everything should break for you as I described. Seems also bad for "recovery mode." -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
