[Bug 525305] New: Gnome-power-preferences and nm-applet fails to grant root access, policykit authorisation
http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=525305 Summary: Gnome-power-preferences and nm-applet fails to grant root access, policykit authorisation Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.2 Version: Milestone 4 Platform: 32bit OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: GNOME AssignedTo: bnc-team-gnome@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: badshah400@gmail.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9.1.0) Gecko/20090623 SUSE/3.5.0-4.6 Firefox/3.5 In both the gnome-power-preferences and nm-applet the options which require root access do not work. In the power-preferences nothing happens on clicking the 'make default' button (that is marked with a key indicating that it requires administrator permissions). Similarly in the nm-applet select the edit-connections option from the right click-menu and try to 'edit' the default eth0 network (again this button is marked with a key, and requires administrator permissions). Again it does not work since nothing happens when the button is clicked. It looks like the problem is due to a failure of communication with policykit throughout the gnome environment. Same problem happens if one adds a new connection from the nm-applet and tries to make it 'available to all users'. It does not work. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Open gnome-power-preferences. 2.Change a setting, and 3.click on the 'make default' button. ----OR---- 1.Right click on nm-applet and select 'Edit connections' 2.In the 'network-connections' window that now shows up, select the Auto eth0 connection. 3.Click on the 'edit connection' button on the right. Actual Results: Nothing happens. Expected Results: Pop-up window should show up asking for root password. On giving the correct root password, the setting should become the default. In the case of network-manager, clicking on the edit-connection button should show a dialog asking for root-password and on entering the correct pass, it should allow the user to change the IPV4 settings, etc. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
