[Bug 553000] New: uvcvideo causes USB not work on MSI Wind U100
http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=553000 User octopus@sandy.ru added comment http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=553000#c1 Summary: uvcvideo causes USB not work on MSI Wind U100 Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.2 Version: RC 2 Platform: x86 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.2 Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel AssignedTo: kernel-maintainers@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: octopus@sandy.ru QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Created an attachment (id=325843) --> (http://bugzilla.novell.com/attachment.cgi?id=325843) dmesg command output User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9.1.4) Gecko/20091016 SUSE/3.5.4-1.1.2 Firefox/3.5.4 On openSUSE 11.2 RC1 (x86, 32bit) freshly installed from DVD with default options (and also after upgrade to RC2) no USB devices are recognized by the kernel. My pc is netbook MSI Wind U100. The plugging any USB device in causes neither an output in dmesg nor any change in lsusb. Such a behavior can be solved by blacklisting uvcvideo module. However, this module is needed for the webcam (BisonCam, NB Pro (5986:0203)). This bug seems to be also known in the ubuntu community. See https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/435352 uname -a Linux msiwind 2.6.31.5-0.1-desktop #1 SMP PREEMPT 2009-10-26 15:49:03 +0100 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux lsusb Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub Bus 001 Device 002: ID 5986:0203 Acer, Inc Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub Bus 003 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub Bus 004 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub Bus 005 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. just install OpenSuse 11.2 RC1 i586 from dvd with default options on MSI wind u100 2. after the first boot USB doesn't work 3. Actual Results: Neither usb mouse nor usb mass storage devices are not identified. This is reported by lsusb and dmesg During boot kernel reports several "cannot reset port 6 (err = -108)" errors. However, if the device is plugged before boot it is recognized and works properly. Blacklisting of uvcvideo modile in /etc/modprobe.d/50-blacklist.conf returns the system to the normal behavior. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

This looks like a via chipset bug, see the conversation on the linux-usb developer mailing list. People are working on it...
Looks like Oliver worked up a patch here: http://marc.info/?l=linux-usb&m=125896804814132&q=raw Building a Kernel now. But, could you provide the output of `lspci -nn` I need to make sure this is targeting the right device for your machine. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I have a fix for this, it's a USB hardware bug in the broken host controller.
I am building a Kernel now for Alexander to test with the increased 1000uS delay. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Though USB and webcam now work correctly, I get "Failed to get NUMA memory information from SRAT table" on boot.
That's normal, and you should have been getting that always. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
