Frankly, I don't remember having a feature to automatically add "any" into EXT zone so neither that nor removing it. I've just checked SLES 11 Beta1 (I've removed the sysconfig configuration and reinstalled the SuSEfirewall2 package). That adds a lot more possible suspects. In this case it's caused by /etc/sysconfig/network/scripts/hwdesc2iface from the sysconfig package trying to migrate interface names. 'any' is an unknown interface that gets removed.
