[Bug 277622] New: kiwi: boot system for LTSP
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=277622 Summary: kiwi: boot system for LTSP Product: openSUSE.org Version: unspecified Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: System Imaging AssignedTo: ms@novell.com ReportedBy: jt@newmarket.k12.nh.us QAContact: adrian@novell.com the netboot system as configured using the kiwi-ltsp-desc \ setup-ltsp.sh is having multiple issues with hardware of different types I have: 1) IBM Netvista p/n 6649-nau with i810-815 video chip set that does not get configured properly so the x session just restarts over and over again. with out noticeable error. 2) DisklessWorkstation.com model ltsp 150 that won't load the intial boot kernel (ltsp dev suggests using something other than glibc)don't know what that means tried two of these, second one fresh out of the box. 3) IBM 300gl p/n 6591-76u w\intel pro 100 rev 10 that won't get an IP address when the kernel asks. pxe boot works just fine. 4) I have an IBM 2292-22u that works perfectly against same host, so my config is not the problem all of these work with default installation on edubuntu server 7.04 in default configuration. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

In reply to 1: - what are the contents of the config file /etc/X11/xorg.conf ? - is the appropriate driver installed ? - what are the contents of /var/log/Xorg.0.log ? In reply to 2: - I'm sorry I don't have access to such a machine and without further details I'm clueless what happens In reply to 3: - Is there a response from the DHCP server ? - could the network module be loaded ? - which network module supports the card ? - is there an interface (ethX) ? If you don't mind don't mix several issues on bug report it makes my life really hard Thanks -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

It seems your system image configuration is somehow broken. It looks like the server is started with the option "-xf86config <file-name>" and file name is vt7 which seems to be completely wrong. By default the server searches for a file named xorg.conf in different places 3) looks like a kernel problem, especially because the atftp transfer before was successful. You can try to include a line of the form: systemException "break" "shell" into the linuxrc file of your boot image and try to investigate the problem -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

Is there any way schaefi could test it on those/similar hardwares James mentions? It would be worth also to look at ltsp netboot initrd. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=277622 ms@novell.com changed: What |Removed |Added ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Status|NEW |RESOLVED Resolution| |REMIND ------- Comment #8 from ms@novell.com 2007-06-04 02:23 MST ------- In reply to #6. Yes I think problem number 3 concerns the linuxrc part of the netboot initrd but I can't reproduce that here on my machines. The terminal I have is a Wyse VX terminal and all my other test machines runs smoothly as well If the process fails at that early stage it's hard to do remote debugging. That's why I suggested to put a break point to the linuxrc file, rebuild the netboot initrd and give it a try. What you get is a shell and so we could do some tests. I'm sorry but I don't see another possibility Will set this one to == remind == -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
