No problem when I put a Radeon HD 4850 graphics card back in Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Install / add Radeon HD 5770 series graphic card on machine 2.Do clean install of M4 3. Actual Results: I replaced a Radeon HD 4850 card on my v11.2 machine with an 5770 card a couple of weeks ago. The Radeon H5770 card worked but I couldn't live with the reduced resolution and graphics quality on my 22" Samsung monitor so I tried adding "http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/X11:/XOrg/openSUSE_11.2/" to zypper. (This is on v11.2) I did a zypper dup and tried that for a few days but the overall graphics quality was still not acceptable. # BTW my 4850 card works fine on my 22" Samsung monitor - the 4850 specs are below MSI:/space1 # xrandr -q Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 1680 x 1050, maximum 3840 x 1920 DVI-I_1/digital disconnected DVI-I_1/analog disconnected TV_7PIN_DIN disconnected DVI-I_2/digital connected 1680x1050+0+0 494mm x 320mm 1680x1050 59.9*+ 1280x1024 75.0 59.9 1280x960 59.9 1152x864 75.0 74.9 1024x768 75.1 70.1 60.0 832x624 74.6 800x600 72.2 75.0 60.3 56.2 640x480 75.0 72.8 66.7 60.0 720x400 70.1 DVI-I_2/analog disconnected MSI:/space1 # uname -a Linux MSI 2.6.31.12-0.1-desktop #1 SMP PREEMPT 2010-01-27 08:20:11 +0100 i686 athlon i386 GNU/Linux As the 5770 card wasn't working out my v11.2 system (the card BTW is the new R5770 HAWK) and it was my main system I moved it on to an existing v11.3 system. As the monitor resolution and the overall graphics quality were still poor (on the v11.3 system) I added "http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/X11:/XOrg/openSUSE_11.2/" Things didn't improve (didn't get worse either though). NOTE : In the above example I had installed v11.3 (M3 I believe) when the 4850 card was installed. When Milestone 4 came out I downloaded and tried the "iso"s below and reinstalled my 5770 in an attempt to get working on v11.3 using my 22 Samsung monitor. I (unsuccessfully) tried using the following medias - openSUSE-NET-i586-Build0518-Media.iso - openSUSE-KDE-LiveCD-i686-Build0518-Media.iso - openSUSE-KDE-LiveCD-x86_64-Build0518-Media.iso - openSUSE-NET-x86_64-Build0521-Media.iso - openSUSE-NET-i586-Build0521-Media.iso Note: The following tests were made using an Asus M2N32-SLI board, an AMD Phenom 9850 Quad cpu, 4 Go of Ram and 5770 card # 1 openSUSE-NET-i586-Build0518-Media.iso Using the openSUSE-NET-i586-Build0518-Media.iso - v11.3 installed OK but however I couldn't boot into init 5 (with my 5770 card) when I finally rebooted at the end. I couldn't to boot into init 3 using grub either I have raised ticket # 2 openSUSE-KDE-LiveCD-i686-Build0518-Media.iso I couldn't boot into init 5 Below is the message I got when I tried booting into init 3 using grub # # runlevel = init 3 System Boot Control: The system has been Failed features: boot, ipconfig, boot.quota boot.cleanup boot.apparmor Skipped features: System Boot Control: Running /etc/init.d/boot.local /etc/init.d/boot.local: /etc/init.d/boot.local: Input/ouput error /etc/init.d/boot.local: line "é': /var/run/no_blogd:Read-only file system /dev/fd/8: line 10:/sbin/telinit: Input/output error init: rc2 post-stop process (2995) terminated with status 1 [ 97. ] quiet_error: 25 callbacks suppressed [ 97. ] Buffer I/O error on device loop0, logical block 589824 [ 97. ] lost page write due to I/0 error on loop0 [ 97. ] Buffer I/O error on device loop0, logical block 1212417 [ 97. ] lost page write due to I/0 error on loop0 # 3 openSUSE-KDE-LiveCD-x86_64-Build0518-Media.iso I couldn't boot into init 5 I could however boot into init 3 and internet worked ok OpenSUSE 11.3 doesn't install Steps to Reproduce: 1. Boot from OpenSUSE 11.3 Live CD 2. Choose Install from desktop I finally gave up and put my old Radeon 4850 card back and did a net install of M4 (v x86_64) - which worked out fine I am currently installing Win7 64 bit under VMware 7beta (v11.3 M4 is host) now with no problems. Greetings, James Expected Results: Xorg drivers should bring out screen 0 and produce a 1680 x 1050 screen resolution just as the do when using my 4850 radeon on v11.2 as shown below. jpearson@MSI:/space1> xrandr -q Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 1680 x 1050, maximum 3840 x 1920 DVI-I_1/digital disconnected DVI-I_1/analog disconnected TV_7PIN_DIN disconnected DVI-I_2/digital connected 1680x1050+0+0 494mm x 320mm 1680x1050 59.9*+ 1280x1024 75.0 59.9 1280x960 59.9 1152x864 75.0 74.9 1024x768 75.1 70.1 60.0 832x624 74.6 800x600 72.2 75.0 60.3 56.2 640x480 75.0 72.8 66.7 60.0 720x400 70.1 -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
