Is polkit-kde-authentication-agent-1 running before you try to install them? Is it running afterwards?
What is the output of
rpm -q --changelog polkit-kde-agent-1 |head ?
On my laptop polkit-kde-authentication-agent-1 wasn't running after the failure. Are there any pertinent logs I should look at? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I can confirm the bug with a fresh installation of opensuse-12.1 (*), without any online updates applied yet.
Meanwhile i applied the updates with "yast online_updates", but problem still exists: -------------------------------------------- % rpm -q --changelog polkit-kde-agent-1 |head * Thu Nov 17 2011 wstephenson@suse.com - Remove unimplemented 'Remember authorization' UI (bnc#680586) - Always show the password request dialog in front - Autorestart on crash so Polkit continues to work * Mon Sep 05 2011 mlin@suse.com - add %kde4_runtime_requires macro to have the right versioned dependency * Thu Aug 18 2011 toddrme2178@gmail.com --------------------------------------------- Many newbies who rely on the update mechanism opensuse provides at the first place will not be able to keep their system up to date. Apart from the bad effect that they will be confused about what is going wrong, or wondering wether they are doing something wrong. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I had this problem. The steps described in the OpenSuse Forum http://forums.opensuse.org/deutsch-german/hilfe-und-helfen/installation-admi... solved my problem. It was a configuration problem in /etc/pam.d during the migration of 12.2 to 12.3.
That would be bug 812462. @Axel, can you try to provide information required in comment 11 ? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
