https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=685064 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=685064#c0 Summary: XEN: Kernel image does not exist: /tmp/kernel.xxxx when domU Install rebooted. XEN virtual machine cannot start after reboot in installation process. Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.4 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.4 Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Xen AssignedTo: jdouglas@novell.com ReportedBy: hsechovsky@volny.cz QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:2.0.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/4.0 This bug prevents to install any XEN VM machine from installation media (KDE 11.4 x86-64 final), thus XEN is in fact unusable in final OpenSuse 11.4. (Similar bug was reported for 11.4 milestone as Bug #651957. It seems that solution of this bug was not transfered to final 11.4.). When a new VM is installed, installation process runs through all the selection options, installation of packages in reported in the console display up to the final reboot of installed VM. During reboot the VM console is disconnected and VM Manager displays installed VM as shutoff. When I try start this VM, I get the message: Kernel image does not exist: /tmp/kernel.7lbY4w with details: Traceback (most recent call last): File "/usr/share/virt-manager/virtManager/engine.py", line 909, in run_domain vm.startup() File "/usr/share/virt-manager/virtManager/domain.py", line 1321, in startup self._backend.create() File "/usr/lib64/python2.7/site-packages/libvirt.py", line 330, in create if ret == -1: raise libvirtError ('virDomainCreate() failed', dom=self) libvirtError: POST operation failed: xend_post: error from xen daemon: (xend.err 'Kernel image does not exist: /tmp/kernel.7lbY4w') Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Install 11.4 using openSUSE-DVD-x86_64.iso burnt to DVD (including XEN server) 2. Make online update - apply needed and recommended patches 3. Initialise XEN (YAST2 - Virtualization - Install Hypervisor and Tools with XEN checked 3. Reboot to XEN kernel 4. YAST2 - Virtualization - start VM Manager, use create new VM icon, check: I need to install an operating system 5. define a disk: file:/home/xen/images/opensuse11/disk0.raw (used size 20GB) 6. add CDROM to disks and chose CDROM as virtual disk for the installation source 7. start the installation of VM and chose convenient installation options with disk partitioning untouched (use default setting) 8. Monitor the installation process via console dislay provided by VM manager 9. After all packages were installed in reboot was done, check the status of a new VM (will be "shutoff") 10. Start the VM via VM Manager (open) and record the generated error message Actual Results: Reproduced on three differentmachines with AMD 64 bit processors several times. Always with the same result: message: Kernel image does not exist: /tmp/kernel.7lbY4w with details: Traceback (most recent call last): File "/usr/share/virt-manager/virtManager/engine.py", line 909, in run_domain vm.startup() File "/usr/share/virt-manager/virtManager/domain.py", line 1321, in startup self._backend.create() File "/usr/lib64/python2.7/site-packages/libvirt.py", line 330, in create if ret == -1: raise libvirtError ('virDomainCreate() failed', dom=self) libvirtError: POST operation failed: xend_post: error from xen daemon: (xend.err 'Kernel image does not exist: /tmp/kernel.7lbY4w') Expected Results: Correct operation should continue after reboot in installation by the start of the virtual machine with console attached and showing the reboot process and final setup of the operation system in VM. After the setup VM continues to run opensuse 11.4 with and network connection via bridge and desktop and menus available via console. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
