[Bug 920376] New: Kernel oops in snb_uncore_imc_event_start since kernel 3.19.0-2.4
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=920376 Bug ID: 920376 Summary: Kernel oops in snb_uncore_imc_event_start since kernel 3.19.0-2.4 Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Factory Version: 201502* Hardware: x86-64 OS: openSUSE 13.2 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel Assignee: kernel-maintainers@forge.provo.novell.com Reporter: dev@stellardeath.org QA Contact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- Created attachment 625183 --> http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/attachment.cgi?id=625183&action=edit The program causing the crash Since kernel-desktop-3.19.0-2.4.x86_64 I get a reliable kernel oops for a small test program that measures the amount of memory transferred between CPU and RAM via an "uncore" performance counter using perf_event_open. With my previous kernel (kernel-desktop-3.18.3-1.3.x86_64) the programs runs fine (and even gives sensible measurements :) ). Here is the oops, attached you find also the full dmesg as well as the test programs and its output: [ 255.776900] BUG: unable to handle kernel paging request at 0000000000005054 [ 255.779089] IP: [<ffffffff81023d97>] snb_uncore_imc_event_start+0x57/0xa0 [ 255.781263] PGD d2153067 PUD c5aad067 PMD 0 [ 255.783376] Oops: 0000 [#1] SMP [ 255.785463] Modules linked in: bnep bluetooth rfkill fuse xt_CHECKSUM iptable_mangle tun bridge stp llc af_packet ebtable_filter ebtables nf_log_ipv6 ipt_MASQUERADE nf_nat_masquerade_ipv4 xt_pkttype xt_TCPMSS nf_log_ipv4 nf_log_common xt_LOG xt_limit iptable_nat nf_nat_ipv4 nf_nat ip6t_REJECT xt_tcpudp nf_conntrack_ipv6 nf_defrag_ipv6 ip6table_raw ipt_REJECT iptable_raw xt_CT iptable_filter ip6table_mangle nf_conntrack_netbios_ns nf_conntrack_broadcast nf_conntrack_ipv4 nf_defrag_ipv4 ip_tables xt_conntrack nf_conntrack ip6table_filter ip6_tables x_tables snd_hda_codec_hdmi snd_hda_codec_realtek snd_hda_codec_generic x86_pkg_temp_thermal snd_hda_intel snd_hda_controller snd_hda_codec snd_hwdep snd_pcm snd_seq snd_seq_device snd_timer intel_powerclamp iTCO_wdt iTCO_vendor_support snd coretemp kvm_intel [ 255.792609] soundcore dcdbas kvm serio_raw tpm_tis lpc_ich mfd_core tpm pcspkr i2c_i801 ie31200_edac e1000e ptp pps_core mei_me mei thermal edac_core battery 8250_fintek processor dm_crypt ecb cbc algif_skcipher af_alg hid_generic usbhid crct10dif_pclmul crc32_pclmul crc32c_intel ghash_clmulni_intel cryptd sr_mod cdrom i915 i2c_algo_bit ehci_pci xhci_pci drm_kms_helper xhci_hcd ehci_hcd usbcore drm usb_common video button dm_mirror dm_region_hash dm_log dm_mod sg [ 255.802357] CPU: 0 PID: 12795 Comm: test_perf Not tainted 3.19.0-2-debug #1 [ 255.804822] Hardware name: Dell Inc. Does it still happen with later kernels (like 4.0 or newer)?
FWIW, with kernel 4.2.1 it does not crash anymore. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
