If you attempt to boot a notebook running either OS in a docking station with an externally attached monitor the displays works fine until X tries to load, at which point it dumps to a blue screen with a gray message box which says: "Failed to start the X server (your graphical interface). It seems that the pointer device (your mouse) is not setup correctly. Would you like to see the X server output to diagnose the problem?" Yes/No. When you select Yes you receive the following error: "The X server is now disabled. Restarted GDM when it is configured correctly." OK dumps you to a CLI. This information was provided to Novell on several bugs having to do with the use of an external monitor and all were closed with a statement of "we don't support external monitors." It's not clear to me that this is an issue with the external monitor (as the external monitor works if attached to the VGA port on the back of the notebook, just not when the notebooks is in the docking station.) I've provided additional information on this issue to Jack Hodges and Kirk Penrose at Novell. Two things have changed, 1) RC1 (vs Beta 3) and 2) The new nVidia driver (v173.14.05). Not sure which fixed the problem but either way it appears not to be an issue now. Therefore X no longer can be started. Unfortunately such a scenario is not supported by our system right now. What you can do is starting docked in runlevel 3, create a xorg.conf for your docked system by SaX2 and then switch between the normal and docked xorg.conf files with some magic script, which detects if the laptop is docked or not.
