Yes, but octave needs to be _built_ and used with llvm 3.4 when the patch is applied and built and used with llvm 3.3 when the patch isn't applied. You have never get any such guarantee. You gave a good example. Either: 1. use octave 3.8.1 or 2. use llvm 3.4 or 3. use octave 3.6.4 and llvm 3.3 from openSUSE:13.1 (only supported scenario). You can of course experiment and try octave built for openSUSE:Factory, which should work with llvm 3.4.
