In the background the drive access works fine but I can't become access to KDE again, no shortcut like Cntrl + Alt + Esc, Cntrl + Esc, Cntrl + Alt + Backspace, Cntrl + Alt + Del will work, I have to push the reset. With Suse 10.2, 64 Studio 2.0/ Debian Etch and Windows XP-MCE this never happened. Because Suse is my 'main' os I added as an downgrade JAD 1.0/ Suse 10.2 yesterday, this becomes necessary because I've got other problems with 10.3 too. Something off-topic, I don't think it's a bug, I can't write to DVDRAM as user and I didn't find a howto so far. I'm experiencing system freezes when reading data from the secondary IDE channel. I've got two drives both a hard disk and a optical drive on both the primary and the secondary channel. This problem seems to appear only when using the mouse or keyboard while reading data with high transfer rates from the secondary IDE channel. These freezes didn't happen under SUSE 10.1 (Kernel version 2.6.16) and don't happen under Knoppix 5.0.1 (Kernel version 2.6.17). They also happen when I'm using the openSUSE 10.3 Live CD KDE without additional boot parameter. The problem will disappear when I start the Live CD with the boot parameter 'hwprobe=-modules.pata' to disable libata for IDE devices. No freeze occurs while writing data. While reading, the higher the data transfer rates the sooner the freeze will happen. In most cases both the mouse and the the keyboard become inoperative. Sometimes I can still trigger an Emergency Sync by pressing ALT+SysRq+S but I cannot control the KDE desktop or switch to a console with the keyboard. Often I can shutdown the computer properly by pressing the power button of my PC but sometimes even this won't work and I have to reset the computer. No messages are written into '/var/log/messages' while the freeze. Maybe I should also mention that since the upgrade to openSUSE 10.3 I'm encountering occasionally sporadic freezes of the whole computer, mostly with blinking LEDs on the keyboard. My Suse 10.3 still works with sd'x' and not hd'x' and I try something that has to do with X and kernels with a strange result. I build a kernel modul for my kernel-default-2.6.22.13-0.3@i586 by running [...] sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86-96.43.01-pkg1.run -q sax2 -r -m 0=nvidia [...] after that I try to boot the kernel-rt to run [...] sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86-96.43.01-pkg1.run -K [...] but the boot stopped with smartd done I couldn't log in. If I change the xorg.conf setting for the driver from nvidia to nv it's possible to boot the kernel-rt. The freezing maybe a bug of X or the kernel and now the boot stops after smartd is running. I have the same ASRock as Theo with an Athlon Thunderbird @ 898.33MHz. All my freezes will never end apparently it's different with Theo's Suse. Even when it finished the cursor couldn't be moved and shortcuts won't work. I had to reset he computer. I can asked a friend with a laptop but until he has time it could take weeks. After freezing it is possible to play the virtual synthesizer ZynAddSubFX connected by qjackctl with USB-MIDI from a musical instrument connected by USB-MIDI to my computer. And as you remember the copying from DVD also goes on after keyboard and mouse are dead. The messages are from after the reset and reboot.
