[Bug 465114] New: Google Earth will not install/run in openSUSE 11. 1 using the radeonhd driver
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=465114 Summary: Google Earth will not install/run in openSUSE 11.1 using the radeonhd driver Product: openSUSE 11.1 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.1 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: X.Org AssignedTo: sndirsch@novell.com ReportedBy: keith.goggin@bigpond.com QAContact: xorg-maintainer-bugs@forge.provo.novell.com Found By: --- Google Earth does not install properly on openSUSE 11.1 and generates the following error:- "./googleearth-bin: error while loading shared libraries: libGL.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory" However after replacing the radeonhd driver by the fglrx driver not only does Google earth install properly and run smoothly the frame rate displayed by glxgears is double that generated by the radeonhd driver. Could it be that the radeonhd driver is doing software acceleration while the fglrx driver employs hardware acceleration? Note I will submit a separate bug report for a problem I had installing the fglrx driver. kg@newbox:~> glxgears 2481 frames in 5.0 seconds = 496.200 FPS 2487 frames in 5.0 seconds = 497.400 FPS 2487 frames in 5.0 seconds = 497.400 FPS 2486 frames in 5.0 seconds = 497.200 FPS kg@newbox:~> glxgears 5026 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1005.200 FPS 5024 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1004.800 FPS 5026 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1005.200 FPS 5024 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1004.800 FPS -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Google Earth does not install properly on openSUSE 11.1 and generates the following error:- "./googleearth-bin: error while loading shared libraries: libGL.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory"
Looks like you don't have Mesa-32bit installed. For radeonhd driver you need to have Option "DRI" in 'Section "Device"' of your /etc/X11/xorg.conf. It's not our default, since we only support it on R500 cards (Radeon 1xxxx) and even on these it's still considered experimental. For GoogleEarth you need to add <device screen="0" driver="r300"> <application name="Default"> <option name="vblank_mode" value="0" /> <option name="force_s3tc_enable" value="false" /> <option name="disable_lowimpact_fallback" value="true" /> </application> </device> to /etc/drirc. The latter is fixed for SLE11 (>= RC2).
Note I will submit a separate bug report for a problem I had installing the fglrx driver.
Probably a known issue. See Bug #465051 -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
