[Bug 205371] New: Incorrect screen size for monitor Gareway EV500.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=205371 Summary: Incorrect screen size for monitor Gareway EV500. Product: openSUSE 10.2 Version: Alpha 4 Platform: i686 OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: SaX2 AssignedTo: ms@novell.com ReportedBy: rmatov101@charter.net QAContact: qa@suse.de During installation sax2 set up second screen (Gateway 15" EV500) size in xorg.config as 28 21. This is correct in centimeters, but xorg expects milimeters. The result was that KDE used huge fonts, on both screens. Correction of that value and restart of KDE solved the font size problem. I can't see size entry in dabase of monitors, so something else would be the problem. Second problem huge Main Menu that wasn't updated after KDE restart (logout, login) will be reported in another bug report, after this one. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

It was 10.1RC3. The only change is EV500A replacing old 17" monitor that died. Let me know if you need more? BTW, I've seen now, both monitors are listed to be connected to ati card looking the output of `sysp -s xstuff` , but ViewSonic is on nvidia MX 4000 and later below is correct driver nv (at that time). The other weird thing is that in runlevel 3 hwinfo can see only adapter that is set in BIOS as primary. There is more :-) I installed nvidia driver, and run sax2 afterwards as decribed in Stefan's HowTo. It chrashed few times and at the end I edited xorg.conf manually replacing nv with nvidia. I'll attach SaX.log. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

found the bug. The primary device detection was broken. According to this parse data from the wrong device overwrites already detected data.
That made primary screen detected smaller than actual size, and secondary even smaller.
Additionally the size unit for the display size was set wrong in that case and the modeline setting remains uninitialized
Isn't it good that my screens are not the same size, cards are not the same vendor. :-)
fixed

yes that's why I was able to find the bug :-) Nevertheless it could happen that the secondary device couldn't be detected via DDC due to BIOS implementations or unreadable log entries. According to this there may be devices which doesn't have a size detection but this is the better result than a wrong copy of the primary size The fix has been checked in and is also available on openSuSE if you want to give it a test -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
