Michael for Kerberos, Ralf for LDAP, Timo for thinkgfinger. Currently there is no way to fix this dependency in a different way. Even if the packages would provide a 'Suggests' the package manager wouldn't provide the information to the UI.

YaST wouldn't install those Suggested/Recommended packages if samba-client is selected for installation? Or do you mean those 32-bit would be installed, but user couldn't unselect them in the UI? As said with comment #4 we discussed this very intensive. Michael and Schubi convinced me to stay with the current approach. I can't get your point why to change the current state as it works well from the users point of view.

The requirement was introduced to fix bug #224418. From my point of this this is a workaround and should be fixed.

At all this might reduce the amount of installed packages.

Currently, yast modules has to care about system architecture and they install some additional packages that may but may not be needed. I think such architecture dependency should be part of package themselves, it has no sense to have such check in e.g. yast2-samba-client.
