[Bug 516818] New: HP Z600 Workstation ACPI BIOS Bug - Unknown reserved name (_S5D)
http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=516818 Summary: HP Z600 Workstation ACPI BIOS Bug - Unknown reserved name (_S5D) Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.1 Version: Final Platform: x86 OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel AssignedTo: trenn@novell.com ReportedBy: trenn@novell.com QAContact: qa@suse.de CC: sbahling@novell.com, len.brown@intel.com, rjw@novell.com Found By: --- HP Makes use of _S5D, but ACPI does only specify _SXD functions up to sleep state 4. The value for all _S5D functions is exactly the same as for the _S4D functions (0x3). Still it should be addressed whether: - Linux should recognize _S5D functions (not sure whether other _SXD functions are already recognized) to decide to which D state a device should be set when entering S5. - ACPICA should be made aware of _S5D as a reserved function to avoid the warning which should be harmless or whether this really is a BIOS bug using these. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

As far as ACPICA is concerned, I'm not sure if it's a good idea to have such a warning in the kernel at all. It's not about the kernel. It's about Intel's Linuxfirmwarekit, their BIOS test suite. This or at least the one test of it to disassemble and recompile the ASL

From acpica mainline bugzilla (I wasn't that smart to create two bugs...):
