Please try with boot option 'nomodeset'.

Sure, that's fbdev or vesa graphics driver.
Running `Xorg -configure` gives an error about a missing symbol.
Will fix that. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I tried with nomodeset. The result is not different. Same blank screen appears.
Right after boot screen? That can't be with KMS being disabled. Also please attach /var/log/Xorg.0.log for both cases. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Created an attachment (id=411018) --> (http://bugzilla.novell.com/attachment.cgi?id=411018) [details] Xorg log
The file /var/log/Xorg.0.log never gets created/updated when I login to runlevel 3 with-and-without nomodeset but without x11failsafe. Only if I choose x11failsafe and login to gdm, this file gets updated. I have attached the updated file when I logged in via x11failsafe mode.
Of course you need to start into runlevel 5 first for creating the required logfile ... -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I did a zypper up on factory but did not get any updates (to check X -configure) so I believe I will have to wait until next submission to factory (for X) to verify it. Thank you a lot.
I just submitted it for openSUSE:Factory (SR #59381).
However, I seem to have a different problem now. I believe 3d acceleration is not working. gnome-shell, desktop effects, some screensavers etc. don't run. Should I file a different bug ? or do you think you can debug that in this bug itself ? I am ready to come in IRC if you need. Thanks again.
Most likely you need or want the fglrx driver for 3D support. It's about 5x faster (average) than the Mesa driver. With radeonhd driver we disable 3D support with R6xx and higher. This would explain lacking 3D support with boot option 'nomodeset'. With radeonhd driver (KMS enabled) you should have 3D support, but probably not very stable. :-( -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
