[Bug 283118] New: Where are the X man pages X.1 and X.7?
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=283118 Summary: Where are the X man pages X.1 and X.7? Product: openSUSE 10.2 Version: Final Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: X.Org AssignedTo: sndirsch@novell.com ReportedBy: wl@gnu.org QAContact: sndirsch@novell.com Today, I did an innocent man 7 X to look up some details of the APPRESDIR environment variable, and I got nothing! Looking into ARCHIVES.gz file on the OpenSuSE 10.2 DVD I could verify that indeed both X.1.gz and X.7.gz are missing! How comes? Even in case X.org has abandonded (which I can't believe) those two man pages I strongly suggest that SuSE is providing substitutes. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

Please let me know, where I can find it. Thanks. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

Regarding X.1, I've just seen some references to it, e.g. in emacs.1 This seems to be either an error, or only some X distributions have it (or had it). Sorry for the noise. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=283118 ------- Comment #3 from sndirsch@novell.com 2007-06-12 01:56 MST ------- Sorry, Werner. It was not my intention to flame the upstream maintainer of groff. I apologize. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=283118 wl@gnu.org changed: What |Removed |Added ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Severity|Major |Enhancement ------- Comment #4 from wl@gnu.org 2007-06-12 06:24 MST ------- No need to apologize! It was my sloppyness. However, doing a zgrep 'X (1)' * | less in /usr/share/man/man1 I get this: ddd.1.gz:.BR X (1), emacs.1.gz:.IR X (1) groffer.1.gz:.BR X (1), mcookie.1.gz:.BR X (1), opera.1.gz:.BR X (1) xdpr.1x.gz:.IR X (1) xdvi.1.gz:.BR X (1), xdvizilla.1.gz:.BR X (1), xscanimage.1.gz:.BR X (1) xscreensaver.1.gz:.BR X (1), xscreensaver.1.gz:.BR X (1), xscreensaver-command.1.gz:.BR X (1), xscreensaver-demo.1.gz:.BR X (1), xscreensaver-getimage.1.gz:.BR X (1), xscreensaver-getimage-file.1.gz:.BR X (1), xscreensaver-getimage-video.1.gz:.BR X (1), This means that the question for X.1 isn't as moot as it might look at first sight. Before I'm going to fix the man pages in groff I wonder whether there has ever existed an X.1 man page. Unfortunately, searching `X.1' with google is useless because you can't force it to interpret the dot literally... Whom could we ask? https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=283118 ------- Comment #7 from eich@novell.com 2007-06-12 07:00 MST ------- I don't think we ever had an X.1. We did however have an X.7. The sources were in xc/doc/man/general Today they are in: xorg/doc/xorg-docs/man/general/X.man When building the package xorg/doc/xorg-docs and installing into /usr/ it should end up in /usr/share/man/man7/. I've just verified that this works. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

Let's close it as INVALID then. Not sure if anyone is interested in adjusting all the manual pages still referencing it, when the reference was wrong from the beginning anyway ... -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
