As per the advice in Red Hat's corresponding bugzilla entry (Bug 549065: Elantech touchpad detected as Logitech Mouse), adding psmouse.force_elantech=1 to the kernel option line in grub seems to do the trick.
Lets have the original reporter verify. If so, I'm going to close this as per the above workaround. Thanks for the above reference! -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Pending an official solution that doesn't require people to manually edit their /boot/grub/menu.lst file, presumably? As far as I can tell, this is a problem endemic amongst the current crop of Asus laptops, and not every user's going to have the confidence or wherewithal to perform the necessary edit. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

This doesn't solve the problem for me - having the touchpad recognized and configurable by e.g. KDE. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

cat /proc/bus/input/devices now returns "ETPS/2 Elantech Touchpad" instead of "ImPS/2 Logitech Wheel Mouse", and the device is fully configurable under System Settings > Keyboard and Mouse > Touchpad. Which kernel version are you running? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
