[Bug 267977] New: Have the Storage Media applet (media_panelapplet) run by default
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=267977 Summary: Have the Storage Media applet (media_panelapplet) run by default Product: openSUSE 10.3 Version: Alpha 3 Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Enhancement Priority: P5 - None Component: KDE AssignedTo: kde-maintainers@suse.de ReportedBy: mvidner@novell.com QAContact: qa@suse.de CC: dmueller@novell.com There is a Storage Media applet (media_panelapplet) that adds removable media icons to the panel. What I consider its most important feature is that Windows users are trained to the habit of "Look to the system tray to safely remove memory cards" and enabling the applet will give them that feature. When there is no removable medium, the applet is reduced to its handle bar (which is invisible until hovered over) and does not take up any screen space. Therefore the applet should be enabled by default. In the default configuration it will also display CD and DVD icons which I personally find superfluous. Thanks to HuHa for showing me the applet :) (An alternative is to enable media icons on the desktop, which is not enabled by default either: RMB / Configure Desktop / Behavior / Device Icons / Show xxx) -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

I think the extra handle is very confusing though and would prefer a systray icon for this very problem. So I leave this open, but if any possible we won't implement it as this. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
