[Bug 940459] New: new screen fails to interact with screen from SLE12 and earlier
http://bugzilla.suse.com/show_bug.cgi?id=940459 Bug ID: 940459 Summary: new screen fails to interact with screen from SLE12 and earlier Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Factory Version: 201505* Hardware: x86-64 OS: Linux Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Basesystem Assignee: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com Reporter: ohering@suse.com QA Contact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- the current screen(1) in TW sets a new TERM variable "screen.xterm" instead of just "screen" (or whatever it was before). If one connects to a SLE12 host and tries to connect to an existing screen session the attach will fail because "TERM=screen.xterm" is not known. Please restore old behaviour or fix existing installations by providing new termcap/terminfo/termwhatever defines for the new screen variant. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

That's not a problem of screen, it always used "screen.$TERM" if the entry existed.
ncurses does not set any TERM variable -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

If one connects to a SLE12 host and tries to connect to an existing screen session the attach will fail because "TERM=screen.xterm" is not known.
That is there could be a file below /etc/profile.d/ which add "TERM=screen.xterm" without checking if /usr/share/terminfo/s/screen.xterm exists -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

Fix what? Screen works as expected. It chooses "screen.xterm" if available. You can change that in your screenrc if you don't want this AFAIR.
The problem is that on older products there is NO "screen.xterm" which had caused this trouble if you go from a system which has "screen.xterm" with ssh/slogin to one which has not -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
