According to seife this is the effect of the following: * powerdevil runs s2both to suspend to both disk and ram * pm-utils in 11.1 is broken
Workaround: Install a fixed pm-utils from factory: http://download.opensuse.org/factory/repo/oss/suse/x86_64/pm-utils-0.99.4.20...
I installed pm-utils from factory (the i586 one) on my 11.1 system with KDE4.2 but the problem is not solved for me. rpm -q pm-utils pm-utils-0.99.4.20071229-14.2 rpm -q --changelog pm-utils | head * Di Feb 17 2009 seife@suse.de - use s2ram options from config and / or "smart suspend" also for s2both aka "hybrid suspend" (bnc#476484) - run the 30s2disk-check hook also during "hybrid suspend" * Mi Jan 21 2009 hmacht@suse.de - powersave: - Handle "no CPUFreq on this system" gracefully (bnc#462384) - Handle "no AC adapter on this system" gracefully (bnc#462383) - Print warning that this tool is obsolete and might vanish -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Christian, for me it suspends to both RAM and disk for me now - and wakes up from RAM. Is that the same for you?
For me it wakes up from disk, i.e. does a "normal boot" without grub. But the system seems to be faster responsive compared to a normal suspend to disk. I do not know how to check further if the system suspends to both RAM and disk. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Updated both modules. System would not s2ram but just lock the screen. Reverted to the original modules.
what "modules"? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

It seems to fail the "Suspend to RAM" part of suspend to both, so it does the fallback of "resume from disk". I assume that Suspend to RAM did work before for you? In that case, please open a separate bug since this has not really anything to do with this bug (it only shows up due to kde4 now using s2both instead of s2ram). -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

A way to choose if "suspend" should do s2ram or s2both is certainly needed. If upstream does not want that, I could also put a configuration into pm-utils (which then simply would not offer s2both, it would basically lie about the fact that s2both is available and tell that it's not).
This sounds wrong to me, when there is another powermanagment tool from gnome, xfce, whatever offering all 3 options it would look broken on opensuse when s2both doesn't work because of some KDE issue. We should try solving this upstream, any patching around this issue is suboptimal, and otherwise the option should be added to powerdevil and not pm-utils. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
