suspend to disk works perfect. From init=/bin/bash I don't know how to test it. You have to edit the kernel commandline when booting. In grub this is where you select which operating system to boot you can add init=/bin/sh to the commandline.

I was absent the last few days. About mounting /proc: It is strange, mount shows me that /proc is already mounted (but more or less empty). That was the reason I did not mount it. This time i explicitly mounted /proc ("mount" shows it twice...) and the usual sub-directories are there. Positive: s2ram works A short test showed me that the problem is related to kernel modules. When I move the /lib/modules away, s2ram works (it could not load Kernel modules except from initrd) When I move it back and try to load all modules manually, it is not absolutely the same output as before , but s2ram still works. I was on vacation last week so I couldn't respond. As a note, I depend on the fglrx driver which is known not to work with swsusp, so I don't know how useful my testing would be.
