[Bug 218176] New: Major Display problems. Refresh Rate values unchangeable. Resolution Geometry issues
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=218176 Summary: Major Display problems. Refresh Rate values unchangeable. Resolution Geometry issues Product: SUSE Linux 10.1 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Critical Priority: P5 - None Component: Basesystem AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: dcrain@brocade.com QAContact: qa@suse.de This seems to be specific to 10.1. Was able to reproduce this over and over again, and forums show many others have identical/nearly identical problems. Conditions of issue: Fresh installation of 10.1 build on very generic hardware. Gigabyte NF3/250 mobo, Athlon 64 754 pin proc, 1 sata drive, 1 DVDR, 512MB memory. This hardware system installs properly with Fedora Core 5/6, Ubuntu 6.1, Debian Sarge, Mandriva 2007 Free, Kubuntu 6.1, Windows XP and Vista. Only Suse 10.1 exhibits this bug, which is critical to viewing the system. Symptoms: Video display not able to be set to proper refresh rates and/or resolutions, even with manual manipulation of xorg.conf file. In Control Center|Screen Resolution|Refresh Rate, Value is LOCKED at 75Hz, regardless of what is done in the xorg.conf file. This occurs with ALL types of VGA cards and drivers. Many LCD displays Require 60Hz refresh rates to function optimally. Upon initial installation with NVidia cards, values of 71,72,73 are available, but only 71 makes screen visible completely after LCD adjustments (visual quality is poor though). I also tried numerous installs using combinations of Video cards AND Gnome and KDE to see if I could isolate it more, but regardless of desktop, ALL possible combos in 10.1 delivered the identical initial symptoms. With the ATI Suse embedded driver, and manually editing xorg.conf by removing ALL values other than a 1280x1024@60Hz calculated modeline, I was able to get the system to produce a refresh rate of 58Hz, but display quality was not ideal (Windows XP with ATI drivers produced excellent image with this VGA card/Display combo). Display is Samsung 712N (listed as supported by Suse) a standard 17" analog TFT LCD. VGA cards include NVidia GeForce 5200, MX440, and ATI Radeon 7000 VE. SYmptoms were identical with ALL cards and ALL drivers (base system AND those from NVidia or ATI directly via YaST) I am more than willing to provide ANY and ALL help in repoducing this issue if required. FYI, if you check Suseforums and Linuxquestions forums, you will see MANY identical problems where refresh rates are either locked on a wrong value, or are not being calculated properly -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
