The exact error depends on the application I'm connecting with (eg: SMB4K, smb:// in Konqueror etc). An example of the error is when I try to to a share listing with smbclient: smbclient -L //my.server.name Enter user's password: Domain=[MSHOME] OS=[Unix] Server=[Samba 3.0.25b-1.el5_1.4] Server requested LANMAN password (share-level security) but 'client lanman auth' is disabled tree connect failed: SUCCESS - 0 Existing SUSE 10.3 and Windows boxes can all successfully access the server. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I suspect this got fixed with: * Fri May 30 2008 lmuelle@suse.de - Set only CONFIGDIR and LIBDIR while make everything and install. In this case the Samba server had been 3.2.0rc2. As server I also tested SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 with samba 3.0.28. Also here I used the tdbsam passdb backend and had not been able to reproduce the bug. Create a backup of you current smb.conf. Then check if you have an unmodified /etc/samba/smb.conf.rpmnew and start with this one. Add the 'passdb backend' tdbsam and nothing more to check if this works even in your case. I close this.
