[Bug 393722] New: automatic mode allows to skip user creation without warning
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=393722 Summary: automatic mode allows to skip user creation without warning Product: openSUSE 11.0 Version: Beta 3plus Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Blocker Priority: P5 - None Component: YaST2 AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: lnussel@novell.com QAContact: jsrain@novell.com Found By: --- It's possible to not specify a user to create in first stage without warning. With automatic mode the 2nd stage won't prompt for a user again though so one ends up with no user created and no warning at all. I'd expect the 2nd stage to prompt me again for a user to create (or use nis etc) as it used to do in previous releases. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

it should not be possible to create a system without non-root user
It always was possible to skip a creation of the user in the second stage, so I don't see a point in this. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

So, if something should be offered in 2nd stage: should it open inst_user or inst_auth client? I mean, should I ask directly for user creation or for authentication method (which may follow with user creation)?
I'd probably go with user dialog, since it would be backup solution anyway. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

So either: make it impossible to skip first stage user creation in automatic mode
which I translate as "ask for confirmation if no user should be created in automatic mode". Current popup reserved for 2nd stage says: "Leaving the user name empty only makes sense in a network environment with an authentication server. Leave it empty?" And exactly this one could be used. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Another part of this is, that even if I don't use Automatic Configuration, I do not get user's config in 2nd stage. Why is that? My understanding was that without Automatic Configuration checked, full 2nd stage should be run. -> Lukas?
Well, because first stage still disables it by default // First-stage users module will enable them again only if needed ProductControl::DisableModule ("root"); ProductControl::DisableModule ("user"); ProductControl::DisableModule ("auth"); This must be left from the previous version of first vs. second stage users. ----- I'll remove that piece of code and test it properly. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Well, because first stage still disables it by default // First-stage users module will enable them again only if needed
It gets enabled in if needed, e.g. if network authentication is selected. Disabling by default is correct when automatic configuration is checked. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

1. users in 2nd stage: I will enable them only when Automatic Configuration is not set AND user was not configured in 1st stage.
Don't you need to call "users" to write the settings? Maybe "auth" is the one? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
