Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Fresh install of openSUSE 12.3 x86_64 on specific HP laptop models including available updates 2. Suspend to RAM/Suspend to disk 3. Wakeup Actual Results: Fan keeps running at full speed. Expected Results: Fan speed is adjusted to system temperature. Unfortunately, I cannot test it with your script. The sysfs entry /sys/class/drm/card0/power/rc6pp_residency_ms is not available on my system. As far as I can see, this entry is populated by the i915 driver, but not for older generation chips (Intel "gen" <=5). The hp 6730b has a GM45 chipset, for which the sysfs entry does not exist. I also have this issue with openSUSE 12.3 32-bit final on an HP 8510W Notebook.

I tried the 3.8.4-1 Desktop Kernel from http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/Kernel:/stable/standard/ , but it still occurs both with Suspend to RAM and Suspend to Disk from the KDE menu (although it does not successfully suspend to disk, but returns to the login prompt).

Thermal Zone 1 reads 212 F after resume in both cases.

I ran the script referenced above and it says I have the rc6 issue. I've actually been running kernels from Kernel:stable http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/Kernel:/stable/standard/ with great success (except for 3.9.X having btrfs issues - 3.8.X was fine). Right now my laptop (Thinkpad T520) is at *185* degrees F. Normally it runs at 120F. I've even tried other 3.7.X kernels (currently testing 3.7.10-31.g97c14ba-desktop -- problem remains).
