[Bug 216126] New: Crazy fan with radeon driver on ASUS A4D
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=216126 Summary: Crazy fan with radeon driver on ASUS A4D Product: openSUSE 10.2 Version: Beta 1 Platform: 32bit OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: X.Org AssignedTo: sndirsch@novell.com ReportedBy: maximsch2@gmail.com QAContact: sndirsch@novell.com I have ASUS A4500D with ATI Mobility Radeon 9200. I am trying to use radeon driver for this video card but with it fan works all the time. With vesa driver or fglrx with older X.org fan was quite (and it was on with fglrx only when some heavy 3d application worked). Using rovclock I could lower freq of gpu/memory of radeon. It makes radeon quite but I want radeon to lower its freq dynamicly. I already have "DynamicClocks" "on" in xorg.conf but it makes no effect. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=216126 ------- Comment #5 from maximsch2@gmail.com 2006-10-30 11:20 MST ------- Can I provide more information? This bug is very serious for me as it makes my laptop very noisy. I've reported this bug to xorg's developers and ati but there is no proper answer from xorg and no answer from ati. I think there are some problems in Powerplay realization in xorg. I cannot use fglrx with opensuse 10.2 as latest version that supports radeon 9200 (8.28.6) do not support xorg 7.2. The only hope is that ATI would realize that it would be good to support all of their cards. But no doubt there is a bug in xorg's radeon driver. The fan switches off when I go to console (using CTRL-ALT-F1). What things xorg do when I go to consoler? Does it switches something in video card off? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=216126 ------- Comment #7 from maximsch2@gmail.com 2006-12-13 09:50 MST ------- Yes, in fact it is problem with OSS radeon driver in all distributions. I can use older SUSE releases as they can use fglrx driver, but there is no fglrx for 10.2 and in new fglrx that will support X.org 7.2 wouldn't be support for radeon 9200 as it is dropped already. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=216126 ------- Comment #9 from maximsch2@gmail.com 2006-12-13 11:28 MST ------- You could see https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=7061 . This is problem of OSS radeon driver. ATI supports says that it supports SUSE products as Novell is their partner, so you could try to ask them for PowerPlay-specification. Support for R200 chips was dropped in latests fglrx so no hope for ATI to fix this problem. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

From what I have been repeatedly told there are plans to eventually open up documentation on earlier generations also. However due to the need for some legal review the documentation process currently takes longer than we originally expected. There is nothing we can do from our side to expedite this process - especially not for older hardware and as long as there are still huge gaps in the documentation for current hardware. I will ask again about the plans - but this will not change anything. Since PowerPlay seems to change considerably between ASIC generations I don't
