I dont see a way to ask zypper why it wants to install the radeonhd driver. yast already has support for "if the following hardware is found, install this package"
Not really. Add the NVIDIA community repo and you'll notice that none of the KMP packages will get autoselected although the information to do the autoselection *is* available (rpm -qp --supplements <pkg> --> modalias(...)). You know how these modalias entries in KMPs are generated? Please let me know.
and yast modules can also check if needed packages are installed and ask the user if they want to install the missing rpms.
Sure, we used this in the past and still use it AFAIK. And each time packages are renamed the YaST modules need to be adjusted. Well, usually nobody remembers to do it. And therefore the installation fails.
forcing all users to install (mostlikely) unneeded rpms doesnt seem like the correct solution to me.
