This is: - Extremely distracting, having moving objects with high contrast - Requires a non-free player for a non-free standard to view. - Adobe Linux flash player uses 2 cores on my Q6600 simply displaying the page. - Completely worthless use of the space. - Subjectively very ugly, sampled several people and not found anyone who doesn't hate it yet. Please remove the flash animation. If your mouse just happens to be hovering over Flash areas, you cannot use your mouse scroll button to scroll up and down. When visiting the Novell.com homepage, that site is completely unsuable because it is entirely covered in Flash. Never put your form before your function. Flash breaks almost every rule of usability on the web and is exactly the kind of thing that should be avoided at all costs. It has its place in flash games, video and a few other niches, but the way it is used on novell.com is just wrong. Everything Byren and the reporter said go double from me. In addition, I would also add that any text in flash is not resizeable, it steal keyboard & mouse focus even when it is just a looped animation. Any content there-in cannot be indexed by search engines. As a professional web developer I tell my clients that flash is only to be used when it is the right tool for the job(see games, videos). It is absolutely NOT to be used for navigation(see usability) and it is certainly not to be used because 'you just want some flash'. Think about your use-cases and visitor roles, ask yourself what a given flash element is going to do for them. You will find that much of your current use of flash accomplish the following goals: annoy, distract, confuse, disable, slow.
