[Bug 517768] New: unexpected call to "rcsmbfs restart" during ifdown
http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=517768 Summary: unexpected call to "rcsmbfs restart" during ifdown Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.1 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.1 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Samba AssignedTo: samba-maintainers@SuSE.de ReportedBy: gernot@hillier.de QAContact: samba-maintainers@SuSE.de Found By: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; de; rv:1.9.0.11) Gecko/2009060200 SUSE/3.0.11-0.1.1 Firefox/3.0.11 The current version of samba-client for OpenSUSE 11.1 (samba-client-3.2.7-11.2.1) and for SLES11 (samba-client-3.2.7-11.6) contains the script /etc/sysconfig/network/if-down.d/21-smbfs which is called during ifdown. This script calls "rcsmbfs restart" during a normal ifdown cycle. This caused quite some problems for me: - It stalls the normal reboot as well as prints nasty error messages: Shutting down (remotefs) network interfaces: Umount SMB/ CIFS File Systems . done Shutting down syslog services done Shutting down (localfs) network interfaces: eth0 device: Intel Corporation 82576 Gigabit Network Connectidonerev 01) eth1 device: Intel Corporation 82576 Gigabit Network Connection (rev 01) No configuration found for eth1 Nevertheless the interface will be shut down. CIFS VFS: No response for cmd 50 mid 7 - When activating smbfs shares during installation with AutoYaST, it will also cause long stalls after YaST has finished (it shuts down network and restarts it). - Due to some issues here, I had to increase smbfs timeouts greatly - this lead to a seemingly hanging reboot. The main bad thing here is that no output from "rcsmbfs restart" is visible nor is it logged anywhere. So you have no idea what happens here and it took me nearly half a day to understand the installation stall in AutoYaST. It's also quite unexpected that a simple "ifdown eth1" will cause a remount of smbfs on eth0. So I would really vote for removing this hook script again. If this is not possible due to any strange reason, please make at least clear what happens here by having the "rcsmbfs" output printed. Reproducible: Always -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

From the first check I believe there is a superfluous restart of the service in
