https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=230694 Summary: umount.cifs and /etc/mtab Product: openSUSE 10.2 Version: Final Platform: i686 OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Network AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: golter@dubna.ru QAContact: qa@suse.de umount.cifs unmount mounted share, but does not remove appropriate record from /etc/mtab. So, I have to use umount -t cifs instead of umount.cifs to unmount share and remove mount point record from /etc/mtab. What is the version of cifs that is being used here? I am fairly certain that this has been fixed since 1.45 or 1.46 version of cifs.
$ rpm -qa |grep cifs cifs-mount-3.0.23d-6 $ man mount.cifs | grep -A 2 VERSION VERSION This man page is correct for version 1.39 of the cifs vfs filesystem (roughly Linux kernel 2.6.15). $ mount.cifs -V mount.cifs version: 1.10-3.0.23d-6-1083-SUSE-SL10.2 $ uname -r 2.6.18.2-34-default there is "Version 1.45" at top of /usr/src/linux-2.6.18.2-34/fs/cifs/CHANGES. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=230694 ------- Comment #7 from shirishp@us.ibm.com 2007-02-07 15:46 MST ------- After building and installing 3.0.24 version of samba, I am using mount.cifs 1.10-3.0.24 and umount.cifs 0.5-3.0.24 and version 1.47 of cifs. I tried mounting and unmounting both samba and Windows XP shares and in both the cases, after invoking umount.cifs, /etc/mtab was clean. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=230694 ------- Comment #8 from shirishp@us.ibm.com 2007-02-08 10:43 MST ------- Tried the test with /usr/src/samba-3.0.23d/source/bin/umount.cifs -V umount.cifs version: 0.5-3.0.23d /usr/src/samba-3.0.23d/source/bin/mount.cifs -V mount.cifs version: 1.10-3.0.23d linux-1t9o:/usr/src/samba-3.0.23d/source # uname -r 2.6.16.21-0.8-default cifs version 1.45 could not recreate the problem. What does remove_from_mtab call in umount.cifs.c return in your case? Had to modify that file little bit as below.
