To quote the man page for df: "df displays the amount of disk space available on the file system containing each file name argument. If no file name is given, the space available on all currently mounted file systems is shown."
That clearly says that it is showing the amount of AVAILABLE space. df says my btrfs filesystem has available space when it does not.
From comment 5: "avail - the best guesswork possible to estimate the free space"
That guesswork is wrong for btrfs systems. Why do you think that it is wrong? "btrfs fi show" or "btrfs fi df " do not show amount of free available space. I your case df says that you have 20G available, and it is most likely that you actually have this amount of space available.
"You are comparing apples and oranges."
I am comparing "space available" to "space available". Where did you get this second space available?
