Given the amount of data displayed (not just status, but model number and serial number), I can see why they'd think spontaneously disappearing would be a bad idea. It's not the bug it appears to be at first glance, but it's certainly a confusing UI, and the upstream maintainers are aware of this issue. The upstream bug complaining about this UI is at http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=423186 I think we can let upstream handle this.
