[Bug 257768] New: NX connections fail
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=257768 Summary: NX connections fail Product: openSUSE 10.3 Version: Alpha 2 Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Other AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: jfunk@funktronics.ca QAContact: qa@suse.de I cannot connect via NX to my 10.3a2 system from my 10.2 system. I have tried connecting with various clients: nxclient 1.5.0, nxclient 2.1.0, and qtnx. I only get a black screen and the client eventually closes. On the server side, nxserver --list claims there is a session running but a 'ps ax | grep nx' returns nothing. I changed NX_LOG_LEVEL in /etc/nxserver/node.conf to 7 but I am getting no useful information in /var/log/nxserver.log, which I will attach. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

If this doesn't help, i.e. NX 2.1.0/FreeNX 0.6 no longer works for you, it would help to figure out, if the NX or FreeNX update broke things for you by using 1) NX 2.1.0 + FreeNX 0.5 2) NX 1.5 + FreeNX 0.6 Still you need to make sure that NX is same version on both sides. Obviously NX 1.5/FreeNX 0.5 (on 10.2) works for you. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

I was using nxclient 1.5.0 to connect to all of my 10.[012] machines. When I updated one machine to 10.3a, I could only get a black screen. I tried updating the client to 2.1.0 and while I can still log into the 10.[012] machines, the 10.3a machine is still not working. I just tried uninstalling the nomachine nxclient and using the one in FreeNX. It just displays an empty xmessage window. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

Since nxclient 2.1.0 still works together with NX 1.5/FreeNX 0.5 (10.2) it should be ok to test with nxclient 2.1.0 from Nomachine. Additionally it provides better error logs than knx/qtnx. :-) Could you work with the testing scenarios I described in comment #11 using nxclient from Nomachine and provide results for it? I would like to do testing myself, but since NX 1.5.0/FreeNX 0.5 already no longer works for me - no matter which NX client I use - I can't figure out, if NX or FreeNX is the problem for you. :-( -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

First, I logged into the machine, which worked, and verified that the installed NX and FreeNX packages were consistent with the 10.2 distribution. Then I updated NX to the 2.1.0 from factory, which fails: /usr/bin/nxserver: line 1077: 6717 Terminated sleep $AGENT_STARTUP_TIMEOUT This is where it gets weird. I brought it back to the 1.5.0 rpm from 10.2, and now nxagent segfaults: /usr/bin/nxnode: line 316: 13075 Segmentation fault (core dumped) PATH="$PATH_BIN:$PATH" $PATH_BIN/nxagent $P $R -name "NX - $user@$SERVER_NAME:$display - $session (GPL Edition)" -option "$USER_FAKE_HOME/.nx/C-$sess_id/options" $K $G $B $FP :$display $AGENT_EXTRA_OPTIONS_X 2>&3 I replaced /etc/nxserver/node.conf with the unmodified one from the RPM, removed all the session files from /var/lib/nxserver/db as well as the entire $HOME/.nx directory on the server side, and ran 'nxsetup --clean --install --setup-nomachine-key'. nxagent still segfaults and rpm -V claims that NX and FreeNX are clean. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

I now have the NX and FreeNX packages from 10.2, I am still just getting a black screen. On the server side, I can see the kde startup commands running normally. Eventually, something times out, and the nxclient window disappears, along with the kdeinit processes. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

Both QtNX and the newest NoMachine nxclient-2.1.0-17 fail to connect to FreeNX 0.6.0 server locally. I don't get any reasons. QtNX just writes "Fail to connect", while NXclient just shuts-down itself without explaining the problem. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=257768 ------- Comment #20 from al4321@gmail.com 2007-06-09 04:02 MST ------- Well, the /etc/hosts is kind of "Static DNS" if you will... just a name resolver. I have tried NX client with using "127.0.0.1" instead of "localhost", and it still doesn't works. Maybe it is time to degrade the whole NX stack to older version is there is no fix? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

Excuse me, but the folder is "/usr/share/doc/packages/NX/samples" and not "/usr/share/doc/packages/NX/examples/samples",
The location did change some weeks ago.
plus the README file is so difficult to understand, that I understood really zero from it !
