[Bug 219363] New: no nis server found with network manager
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=219363 Summary: no nis server found with network manager Product: openSUSE 10.2 Version: Beta 2 Platform: PowerPC OS/Version: Linux Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Installation AssignedTo: yast2-maintainers@suse.de ReportedBy: olh@novell.com QAContact: jsrain@novell.com 10.2b2 fresh install, minimal text mode I selected network manager instead of ifup in the user config / NIS screen, config via dhcp was already set. once yast was finished and the system booted to runlevel 3, I got 'no nis server found'. after a reboot, I got ypbind 'No domain name set' All that worked better in the old days with ifup. when I login later with ssh, ypdomainname gives 'suse.de'. Maybe network manager should restart ypbind and autofs once it has all infos. No idea what yast is supposed to do here. logs in bug #219360 -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

Robert, what is supposed to restart ypbind? A dispatcher script? Or directly in NetworkManager's suse backend? Anyone, how would it know if the system is using NIS or not? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

I _think_ someone actually enabled ypbind to listen to NM and handle the reload itself (pretty swank). We have gone through a ton of changes here; I don't use ypbind and someone would always say that whatever behavior NM had was wrong for their use case. :P -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
