[Bug 343476] New: s2disk hangs before turn off and system is died after s2ram
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=343476 Summary: s2disk hangs before turn off and system is died after s2ram Product: openSUSE 10.3 Version: Final Platform: 64bit OS/Version: openSUSE 10.3 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Network AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: Fartash.Faghri@gmail.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Created an attachment (id=184277) --> (https://bugzilla.novell.com/attachment.cgi?id=184277) pm-suspend.log for s2disk At first I should mention that both of these stuffs where good on 10.2 with my system. s2disk: system goes to the snooz background but and then a black screen appears and then nothing. So I should shut it down manually and turning it on again has only the diffrence of grub autoboot and everything else is a new boot. s2ram: system goes to sleep completely but after waking it up; nope it doesn't wake up! system is died, CapsLock doesn't work and no action. Bad thing is that nothing has been reported in /var/log/messages, neither good nor bad and /var/log/pm-suspend.log has only good events for both of s2disk and s2ram. we've been discussing it a little on http://www.suseforums.net/index.php?showtopic=42116 and got no success. I attach pm-suspend.log. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

s2ram: As I said in that link from suseforums.net I tried some of the options but not all because there was no problem with s2ram -f -p -m in my 10.2 and anytime I want to check I use these options again. I added the boot parameter init=/bin/bash to my grub menu.lst but doing s2ram -f -p -m in that mode got me these lines and did nothing:
Switching from vt1 to vt1 /proc/sys/kernel/acpi_video_flags does not exist; you need a kernel >=2.6.16. switching back to vt1
Yes, this is why i described on the s2ram page http://en.opensuse.org/S2ram that you need to mount /proc and /sys for trying from minimal mode.
s2disk: I added that line and after doing s2disk there was these lines which I don't think get us anything:
Nov 28 23:34:55 Fartash_Lap kernel: eth0: no link during initialization Nov 28 23:34:57 Fartash_Lap iratach: tcgetattr Input/output error swsusp: Basic memory bitmaps created Nov 28 23:35:42 Fartash_Lap kernel: kernel: swsusp: Basic memory bitmaps created s2disk: Snapshotting system
No does not help too much :-( You could try if the latest mainline kernel, for example packaged at http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/Kernel:/Vanilla/openSUSE_10.3/x86_... helps. Just download the package, and install it in addition to your existing kernel with "rpm -ihv packagename.rpm", then you'll get two kernel entries to choose from in the bootloader. In case something does not work with the new kernel, you can still boot the old one. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Created an attachment (id=184278) --> (https://bugzilla.novell.com/attachment.cgi?id=184278) [details] pm-suspend.log for s2ram
Hi Fartash. I had same problem. But after 3 days, I fix. My machine is a 32bits (ok, yours is a 64bits) DELL D510 (pentium-M). Well, my OpenSUSE 10.3 come with 2.6.22.13 Kernel version. I tried all, so I suspected of Kernel. Thus, I downloaded a source kernel from kotd path (http://ftp.suse.com/pub/projects/kernel/kotd/), specific version 2.6.22.14-SL103_BRANCH_20071211204518-default. After compile, s2disk and s2ram work again. Try a new source kernel from kotd path, 2.6.22.14-SL103. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
