[Bug 270231] New: Add repair function for RPM database to YaST
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=270231 Summary: Add repair function for RPM database to YaST Product: openSUSE 10.3 Version: Alpha 3 Platform: x86 OS/Version: openSUSE 10.3 Status: NEW Severity: Enhancement Priority: P5 - None Component: YaST2 AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: casualprogrammer@yahoo.com QAContact: jsrain@novell.com Every now and then, while performing large updates, YaST will get stuck. After terminating it, sometimes it works, sometimes not. In the cases where it refuses to work usually something is wrong with the rpm database. The only cure I found so far, is rebuild the rpm database as per http://www.rpm.org/hintskinks/repairdb/ As this is something that doesn't spring to mind ( at least not my one ) and the average user will have a hard time in finding out, I suggest adding this functionality to YaST. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=270231 ------- Comment #4 from casualprogrammer@yahoo.com 2007-05-03 16:08 MST ------- "Try running 'yast2 repair'", there seems to be no entry in the yast2 menu ( GUI ) for this. Also it does many helpful things, like declare my active partition for useless, etc ( see screenshots ) What it does not is delete and rebuild the rpm database. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=270231 ------- Comment #11 from jsuchome@novell.com 2007-05-10 00:55 MST ------- Sorry, currently I do not have time to look into this. Meanwhile, could you try to run repair from your boot CD? It has some extra functionality according to the one called on the installed system. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=270231 ------- Comment #12 from casualprogrammer@yahoo.com 2007-05-10 02:02 MST ------- Checked it out. If you didn't mention a repair function on the boot DVD, I probably would never have found it :-( It is well hidden behind the Installation setup, I will forward an enhancement bug report to that extent. There is an option to check the rpm database, not sure whether it will do a repair if needed, as currently nothing is broken. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
