Just added the svn version 4356 as patch to TeXLive source tree but this does not help. Even with this patch the dimension the the box used for multibyte character A1 A1 is zero:
results with
eptex -ini -jobname=platex -progname=platex \*platex.ini
in
(/tmp/=/usr/share/texmf/tex/platex/base/plcore.ltx \adjust@dimen = 0 ! Dimension too large. \adjustbaseline ...djust@box \cwd \wd \adjust@box \cvs \normalbaselineskip \... l.629 \adjustbaseline
does your "eptex" binary link against poppler ? according to Peter Breitenlohner on the tlbuild list: One problem is, that poppler 0.18 was released long after TL2011 (although as far as I can see all relevant changes came with 0.17.0 or 0.17.2). Finally e-pTeX uses neither xpdf (from the TL tree) nor poppler (installed or from the TL tree), I can't see how the poppler version should matter for platex! where can I find *.src.rpm (for TL, and maybe poppler etc.) for testing myself this weekend ? thanks! -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

From what I've found from the glibc manual/memory.texi
@item M_PERTURB If non-zero, memory blocks are filled with values depending on some low order bits of this parameter when they are allocated (except when allocated by @code{calloc}) and freed. This can be used to debug the use of uninitialized or freed heap memory. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I've found the culprit:
--- /abuild/oscbuild/openSUSE_Factory/tmp/env +++ /abuild/buildsystem.old/tmp/env @@ -21,8 +22,6 @@ LOGNAME=abuild MACHTYPE=i686-suse-linux MAIL=/var/spool/mail/abuild -MALLOC_CHECK_=3 -MALLOC_PERTURB_=69 MANPATH=/usr/local/man:/usr/share/man MINICOM=-c on MORE=-sl
I've no idea what exactly MALLOC_PERTURB_ is good for but for now it is disabled as it does crash TeX programs trying to dump out a format. I'd like to know if this also will breal e.g. GNU Emacs, or XEmacs, or clisp.
very dumb question: where is MALLOC_PERTURB defined when I rebuild a .src.rpm on my 12.1-beta machine ? how can I redefine it for other builds ? I can't find any PERTURB string in files of rpm.rpm or build.rpm or in /usr/lib/rpm/... etc. FYI: I'm asking for bug #723777 (X server crash duing install): Egbert noticed that some pointer in a freed structure has vaule 0x45454545.... which finally causes *some* trouble;-) now I wonder a) how can I build binary rpms with different values for MALLOC_PERTURB (either 42 or just 0 (zero)) b) if my local "rebuild --rebuild ..." doesn't build identical/compatible packages, is this any good ?! thanks for any hint & pointer... -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
