[Bug 734981] New: sftp into openSUSE 12.1 box quits => wrong setting in /etc/ssh/sshd_config
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=734981 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=734981#c0 Summary: sftp into openSUSE 12.1 box quits => wrong setting in /etc/ssh/sshd_config Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.1 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: SuSE Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Network AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: batalovs@yahoo.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686 (x86_64); en-US; rv:1.8.1.10) Gecko/20071015 SUSE/2.0.0.10-0.2 Firefox/2.0.0.10 sftp into openSUSE 12.1 box quits after authentication. This is **not** the 'Received message too long 458961005"' error. After checking everything, I believe that I've found the culprit. # grep sftp /etc/ssh/sshd_config Subsystem sftp /usr/lib64/ssh/sftp-server ..but /usr/lib64/ssh/sftp-server didn't exist. After copying /usr/lib/ssh/sftp-server to /usr/lib64/ssh/sftp-server, the problem was solved. Thanks, --Serge Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Install openSUSE 12.1 x86-64 using a DVD 2. Create users, Enable ssh 3. sftp user@this 4. sftp authenticates and quits Details: this is a fresh box where openSUSE 12.1-beta1 x86-64 was installed when it was available and yesterday upgraded to openSUSE 12.1 x86-64 using a DVD. This (the beta1 inheritance?) could be related to the problem. Please check a clean install (I don't have a box or time to check this). -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Serge just to check, aren't you sure you didn't have an sshd_config.rpmnew file after the upgrade to last version.
If yes, can you check if it contain the right line, cause it is in 12.1 final.
the lib64 is probably coming from previous install (like 11.4) in 11.4 grep sftp sshd_config Subsystem sftp /usr/lib64/ssh/sftp-server
in 12.1 (for example an upgrade of 11.4) grep lib sshd_config.rpmnew Subsystem sftp /usr/lib/ssh/sftp-server
My advise after an upgrade run a find .rpmnew everywhere and inspect all differences.
Indeed, this is true: /etc/ssh # ls -lt sshd_config* -rw-r----- 1 root root 3862 Dec 6 01:01 sshd_config -rw-r----- 1 root root 3825 Oct 5 09:16 sshd_config.rpmnew /etc/ssh # diff sshd_config sshd_config.rpmnew .. 118c118 < Subsystem sftp /usr/lib64/ssh/sftp-server ---
Subsystem sftp /usr/lib/ssh/sftp-server
I will check for all .rpmnew everywhere. Thanks, it works for me. As for possible patches for the update scripts, this is up to you of course. There may be other confused users like me. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

But I guess since we all agree that this is a "upgradeproblem", and since there is the rpmnew config file we should close this bug as invalid?
Probably the right solution. Closing. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
