[Bug 653540] New: cpufreq module no longer autoloaded on core2 duo
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=653540 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=653540#c0 Summary: cpufreq module no longer autoloaded on core2 duo Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.4 Version: Factory Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Basesystem AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: seife@novell.slipkontur.de QAContact: qa@suse.de CC: trenn@novell.com Found By: Third Party Developer/Partner Blocker: --- Running FACTORY, I suddenly noticed that powertop does not report P-states anymore. Investigating the issue I found, that the acpi-cpufreq driver is no longer automatically loaded. My first guess was that this was caused by me using systemd for init, but running with traditional System V init does not change anything. So I guess it is either a change in the Kernel or udev that causes acpi-cpufreq to not get loaded anymore. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

--- Comment #4 from Kay Sievers
This is a major bug..., would it make sense to go for a temporary workaround for most important drivers, namely powernow-k8 and acpi-cpufreq? Andi/Kay: Any estimation whether the CPU modalias autoload mechanism will be available soon? How can I help?
I think the modules should get loaded (until we get there) by: /etc/init.d/cpufreq from pm-utils. The CPU modalias depends on wire-sysdev-class-to-a-bus.patch. It works here, but Greg and I need to decide how to finally push that in. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
