[Bug 663285] New: KMix: can't see/change master volume, line in, microphone etc.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=663285 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=663285#c0 Summary: KMix: can't see/change master volume, line in, microphone etc. Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.4 Version: Factory Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: KDE4 Applications AssignedTo: kde-maintainers@suse.de ReportedBy: suse-beta@cboltz.de QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: Beta-Customer Blocker: --- zypper dup from 11.3 to 11.4 Factory (between M5 and M6) KMix only displays the following items for me: Tab "Streams wiedergeben" (play streams) - Ereignistöne (event sounds) -- interestingly I can't change it, the slider always jumps back to full volume Tab "Streams aufnehmen" (record streams) - (empty) If I try to add a new tab (independent of what details I choose), I always get "Die Ansicht kann nicht hinzugefügt werden, da das Oberflächen-Profil ungültig ist." (Can't add the view because the interface profile is invalid.) The result is that I can't - control the master volume - control the volume of microphone, line in, PCM etc. channels - control the volume of e. g. mplayer and many other programs (that don't use KDE's sound framework?) Deleting ~/.kde4/share/config/kmixrc* helped a bit [1] (I can at least control master volume), however kmix is broken again (as described above) after the next start of kmix. [1] I additionally got at the next kmix startup Tab "Wiedergabegeräte" (output devices) - Internes Audio Analog Stereo (internal audio analog stereo) Tab "Aufnahmegeräte" (recording devices) - Internes Audio Analog Stereo (internal audio analog stereo) -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

From what I can take from the KDE bug report the root cause seem to be localization of key/value pairs in kmic*rc.

I have the same problem, so Sound works, but I can not change any option in Kmix, because there are no. But I found a work around (also for German KMix): Uninstall pulse audio.
So I think there might be the problem (I guess pulse had never ran without problems with openSUSE)
Probably the transition from alsa to pulse is not smooth. would be nice to have polished pulseaudio support as it's the only way to get bluetooth audio support -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
