[Bug 273098] New: Update to kernel 2.6.18.8.0-3 makes shared libraries unaccessible
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=273098 Summary: Update to kernel 2.6.18.8.0-3 makes shared libraries unaccessible Product: openSUSE 10.2 Version: Final Platform: PC OS/Version: Linux Status: NEW Severity: Blocker Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel AssignedTo: kernel-maintainers@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: edwin@cyclades-info.com QAContact: qa@suse.de I have tried it twice now, but the latest kernel update makes that my laptop won't boot correctly anymore. During boot, it complains that the shared libraries are not accessible, thus failing fsck and going into runlevel 1. I went back to the kernel on DVD, and had zen-updater install all the updates again. So, now for the 2nd time, it won't boot to a higher runlevel. I cannot attach any logfiles, since I have no network. ldconfig -p shows all the libraries. The / partition is mounted. Using opensuse 10.2 on a Toshiba Satellite Pro M70. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=273098 ------- Comment #4 from edwin@cyclades-info.com 2007-05-13 03:19 MST ------- I ran the installation from DVD in an attempt to get a working machine again, but had no luck. The only way to get it working is to go into the installation and then choose "Boot installed system" (not in the first menu, but in the screen where you choose "New"/"Update"/"Other"). Then it boots without any problem. Is there any progress with this bug? Or doesn't anyone have a clue as where to look? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=273098 ------- Comment #5 from edwin@cyclades-info.com 2007-05-19 08:35 MST ------- I installed opensuse 10.2 from scratch. Then I installed all the available updates, expect the two kernel security updates, thinking that one of these is causing the problem. However, my pc didn't boot properly again. Now I reinstalled it again and have a working pc. But which update or updates is causing this behavior? Apparently, it's not the kernel update... I would like to find the bug, so I can enjoy the automatic updates. https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=273098 ------- Comment #6 from edwin@cyclades-info.com 2007-06-05 00:29 MST ------- Hello developers! What is the status of this bug? Is there anything that I can do to find it? I now have to be very careful with updates, deselecting anything that affects the boot sequence, and I don't like that. How can I update my laptop and have a rollback, in case it goes wrong again? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
