[Bug 855549] New: Correct Auto URL for Accessing Nvidia Screen Drivers and URL for banshee is Just Plain Wrong and Offers Nothing Usable
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=855549 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=855549#c0 Summary: Correct Auto URL for Accessing Nvidia Screen Drivers and URL for banshee is Just Plain Wrong and Offers Nothing Usable Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.3 Version: Final Platform: All OS/Version: openSUSE 12.3 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Update Problems AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: secure@aphofis.com QAContact: jsrain@suse.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:25.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/25.0 When I scan for Nvidia screen drivers from heading Community Repositories Nvidia Drivers Repo is way wrong and just doesn’t work. Its important for any version of opensuse that has Nvidia Video Cards to add the Nvidia Repo. Once the Nvidia Repo is in place the correct Nvidia screen drivers are automatically added to online update and there is no guess work. Yes the native kernel works o.k with all my Nvidia Video cards but it works much faster with their drivers...the Repo is located at ftp://download.nvidia.com/opensuse/12.3/ The banshee repo URL is just wrong and has been for the whole of 12.x....can we fix it once at the source to get everything else working please Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Yast>Software Repositories>Add>Scan for Community> 2.then try to add both Nvida and Banshee Repos and the return URL is just plain madness..In the case of Nvidia we get...http:/.download.........is just plain wrong and Banshee URL is just plain wrong 3. Actual Results: No Repo is added Expected Results: Repo auto added and Online update auto selects the specific Nvidia drivers which are a bit faster and more desirable than default -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

What's wrong with the NVIDIA http URL? http://download.nvidia.com/opensuse/12.3/ is the correct URL. You know that NVIDIA's webserver is not browsable?
Stefan please click on your own URL...It Wont Resolve...File Not Found...Nvida always use FTP. Stefan...The nature of the traffic is a mute point as I have written very clearly about...I just want to be able to click on the community Repo's and have the correct URL be entered auto and have it work...Its that simple
I'm not going to dispute the concept and advantages of using FTP rather that HTTP. Load Balancing traffic I accept but the native spec for FTP File transport is always far more reliable and natively faster and superior.
I respect your decision to load balance and use http but would like to offer the following of why we have FTP traffic in the first instance.
However the auto urL insertion currently just doesn’t work for the above reasons...its immediately evident when you try to auto accept scan for community repo's...

Again. NVIDIA's webserver is *not* browsable. You need to use (as user root) zypper ar http://download.nvidia.com/opensuse/12.3/ NVIDIA-12.3 zypper ref NVIDIA-12.3-test zypper packages NVIDIA-12.3-test
...Nvida always use FTP.
Which is still wrong. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Off course I choose correctly chosen URL work that the logic behind providing a user interface for users...to work! In every instance it auto inserts what we chose and works like a charm >done. Back to Nvida...change your http:// output to be the use Nvida use for transport. copy and past in you your browser and it is resolved for you Now try ftp://download.nvidia.com/opensuse/12.3/ in your browser..Its resolves perfectly....again insert into yast manual repo and it works.
The http URL is correct, just NVIDIA messed up the openSUSE 12.2/12.3 repo recently (also the ftp one). NVIDIA is informed. The reason to use http is, that the webservice is a load balanced web cluster. ftp is not.
I understand we have to use web cluster. Nvidia has not messed up and please I hope you haven’t informed them THEY are WRONG...WE look like hacks when we tell other providers 'they are wrong and will be informed'.. Id like to think we treat our partners with sound logic if nothing else. BTW We stuff up the banshee repo auto inserts as its not even browsable in format! -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Scott, Jiri is only the QA contact of this component. Don't expect any reply by him. Reassigning to my boss, since there is no point discussing this any longer. ;-)
Thank you. The only expected reply would be resolution using logic. Jiri has simply known me for longer years and understands the way I use English. Most times we resolve issues by simply asking for another’s eyes to cast over the bug in question and I thank you. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
