I don't have an "Analog loopback" in any mixer I know of (alsamixer or kmix (KDE4 version)). In the playback part of alsamixer I have only two controls: Master & PCM - there are no switches there. There are no switches either in Capture or All parts of alsamixer either. I have installed the alsa-driver-KMP (default) from that repo you suggested, as well as updated alsa libs & firmware. oldcpu from the forum suggested that. Haven't installed the unstable one. The output from alsa-info.sh (it is attached at the top of my original bug report post) was after I had run though all the steps that both you and oldcpu have suggested. So with latest updates applied, 'model=' added to modprobe.d/sound and the latest alsa stuff (inc. the KMP) from the OBS repos. Obviously all 'latest' at that date. If you have a quick skim of the forum posting I linked to, you will see the steps I took to try and find the source of the problem, there are about 4 posts of interest in there. I will update again (and update the extra alsa stuff from OBS repos) and have another go. I will attach the output of alsa-info.sh from that test as well. If there is anything else I can do to help, please just let me know. Sorry for the bad info, I do have capture mixers. I'm not at my computer at the moment but off the top of my head I have one for 'Mic' (with a tickable box on it - I assume to turn capture on the mic on or off) with a sliding scale, one for 'Mux' which has no scale but does have a slider, and one called 'Input So' (Input Source?) with a sliding scale. All 3 at max. The microphone tick switch is unticked (I have tried both options). Speaker output is still OK, nothing at all happens when I plug the headphones in. Specifically: I have music playing via amarok, it comes out of the speakers fine, volume controls work as expected I plug the 'phones in, there is no sound through the 'phones, music continues uninterrupted through the speakers, no change in volume. When I get back I will post more detail along with a new alsa-info.sh (after applying any updates I find). What exactly do you mean by "alsa-info.sh output for the speaker output"? I got hda-verb (the 11.1 version) ran it as root: jimtop:/home/dredd # hda-verb /dev/snd/hwC0D1 0x0d GET_PIN_SENSE 0 nid = 0xd, verb = 0xf09, param = 0x0 value = 0x7fffffff Output remains the same (except 'nid' changing) until: jimtop:/home/dredd # hda-verb /dev/snd/hwC0D1 0x11 GET_PIN_SENSE 0 nid = 0x11, verb = 0xf09, param = 0x0 value = 0x0 And it is the same for 0x12 This is with the 'phones plugged in but no music playing. Truthfully I have never used the mic or the 'phones - I got a new amp and was testing it with my laptop which is why I noticed. I will have a dig in the BIOS and try a couple of livecds. I have ubuntu & gentoo lying around. I'm not installing Windows on it to test - it's not that important :) Will post back my results and if I get no luck we can mark it as a hardware problem.
